Avandia, Avandaryl or Avandamet Tablets

Diabetes is one of the leading causes of coronary heart disease, blindness and kidney failure. Type 2 diabetes is a serious disease that affects about 18 to 20 million Americans. Avandia was approved in 1999 as a supplement to diet and exercise to improve control of blood sugar levels in adults with Type 2 diabetes. However, concerns have been raised relating to rosiglitazone, an ingredient found in medicines such as Avandia, Avandaryl or Avandamet tablets.

GlaxoSmithKline, the manufacturer of rosiglitazone, has known that the use of drugs containing this ingredient may be associated with increased chances of heart attacks and heart-related deaths.

People with Type 1 diabetes (also known as juvenile diabetes), diabetic ketoacidosis, heart failure, fluid retention or active liver disease should not take Avandia, Avandaryl or Avaandamet.

If you are taking Avandia, Avandaryl or Avandamet or any other diabetic medications in which rosiglitazone is an ingredient, you could be at risk for developing some life-threatening complications. Some of the symptoms you may experience as a result of taking these medications are:

  • Stomach pain, nausea or vomiting
  • Having no energy; excessive tiredness
  • Loss of appetite
  • Rapid increase in weight or fluid retention
  • Shortness of breath
  • Decreased or blurred vision
  • Macular edema

Please contact Lowe & Grammas LLP if you or someone you know is taking any of these prescribed medications. Our attorneys will be more than happy to discuss your potential claims with you.
